Privacy policy

Business Finder is a map of local businesses in Manama, run by Business Finder in the Kingdom of Bahrain. We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at any time through Help & support in the app.

You can look at the map, search and get directions without signing up. In that case:

• If you allow location, your phone's position is used to show you on the map and to sort places by distance. It is sent with your searches so the distances can be worked out, and it is not stored.
• Your settings, saved places and recent searches stay on your own device.
• We count how often a business page is viewed, called or routed to. These counts never say who did it.

• Your name, email address and password. The password is stored only in scrambled form (a one-way hash), so nobody can read it, including us.
• Optional profile details: photo, home area and app settings.
• Places you save, reviews you write, messages you send to businesses and questions you send to our support team.
• Business owners: the business details, photos, videos, menu and posts you publish, your plan, and your invoices.
• Cards: only the card type, the last four digits and the expiry date, so you can recognise the card. The full card number and security code are never stored.

• To run the service: sign you in, show businesses, deliver messages and notifications, and answer support questions.
• To manage business plans, free trials and invoices.
• To keep the service safe, for example by slowing down repeated sign-in attempts.
• To show business owners totals about their page, such as views and routes this week.

• Everyone: business pages, posts and reviews. Reviews show the name of the person who wrote them.
• A business owner: the messages you send to their business, with your name.
• Our staff: account details, businesses, invoices and support questions, when needed to help you or to run billing.

We do not sell personal data and we do not use advertising trackers or outside analytics. Some features use outside services, which receive only what they need:

• Map pictures come from OpenFreeMap, and satellite pictures from Esri. Your device asks them for map tiles, so they see your internet address.
• Routes are calculated by the OpenStreetMap routing service, which receives the start and end point of the route.
• Address suggestions for business owners use Photon by komoot, which receives the address text being typed (sent from our server, not your device).
• "Open in Google Maps" opens Google Maps, under Google's own privacy policy.
• When real card payments start, cards will be handled by a licensed payment provider, which will be named here first.

Data is stored on our own server and protected with encrypted connections (HTTPS). A backup copy is made every night and old copies are deleted after 14 days. Our web server's logs record internet addresses and the pages requested, for security; they are overwritten automatically.

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, saved places, reviews, messages, support questions, plan, invoices and business listing are removed from the service straight away, and from the backups within 14 days.

Under Bahrain's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 30 of 2018) you can:

• see and correct your details in Profile and Settings;
• delete your account at any time: Settings, Privacy, Delete account;
• ask for a copy of your data, or object to how it is used, through Help & support.
• complain to the Personal Data Protection Authority in Bahrain if you think we have handled your data wrongly.

We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. Your settings, saved places and recent searches are kept in your browser's own storage. There are no advertising cookies.

Business Finder is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep accounts for them. Business plans are only for adults who may act for the business.

If we change how we use personal data, we will update this page and its date. Important changes will also be announced in the app.
